Tough Arma metal pipe boxing for Camden Council flats
An extensive heating system upgrade programme at a Camden Council residential block in North London is using more than 500 metres of Arma metal pipe boxing from Encasement to conceal and protect pipework at the seven-storey building.
Located close to Euston Road, Tolmers Square provides accommodation for elderly residents and the heating improvements have been carried out as part of Camden Council’s ‘Better Homes’ initiative.
The communal boiler and distribution pipework, which runs through the stairwells and along ceilings to each flat, have been replaced to improve heating efficiency, while the pipes have also been encased with Arma metal pipe boxing to deter vandalism and improve aesthetics.
Arma is manufactured using durable 3 mm thick aluminium, which is formed into various sizes of ‘channel’ with external fixing flanges to accommodate different heating system pipework and valves.
The metal boxing also incorporates pre-formed corner sections, end caps and access panels to enable the inspection and the operation of isolation valves for heating system maintenance. The casings are finished in either a brown RAL 3009 or white RAL 9010 PPC coating to help them blend with the colour scheme when installed against.
Encasement’s Managing Director, Martin Taylor, said: “Arma is designed primarily to provide additional protection to external services and utilities, such as gas supply pipework and cabling and distributed heating system pipes, as used at Tolmers Square, although it is also used on copper air conditioning condenser pipework to prevent theft. Arma is extremely versatile and can be made to suit virtually any application, whether the need is to prevent vandalism or accidental damage.”
