Encasement’s secure pipe protection for Sheffield homes
External heating system pipework at newly refurbished and upgraded homes in Sheffield have been given extra security against tampering and damage by using tough Arma metal external pipe protection from Encasement.
Blackberry Hamlets is a small estate of 33 Sheffield City Council-owned flats and following a recent refurbishment of the 40-year-old properties, including the upgrading of the distributed heating system and gas pipework which is located externally on the gable ends of the buildings.
To provide a weatherproof shield and protection against accidental damage, tampering or vandalism, Encasement’s Arma metal pipe protection has been used to conceal the pipework, while still allowing access to high-level gas valves, as well as maintenance and inspection.
Manufactured from 3mm thick aluminium and standing 6.50 metres high, each bespoke manufactured casing incorporates a secure lockable hinged panel at a high level, which allows authorised access for easy inspection of pipework and valves.
Each Arma casing is 350mm wide, 250mm deep and uses a RAL 8017 brown PPC finish to blend in with the surrounding brickwork. The casings also incorporate joint covers for added protection and are secured to the wall using heavy-duty fasteners.
Encasement’s Managing Director, Martin Taylor, commented: “This is exactly the type of project that Arma was designed for and has been used in countless similar social housing projects, where vulnerable pipework such as that used for gas supply, exterior distributed heating system or ground source heat pumps needs to be concealed securely.”
