Encasement’s Polyma GRP casings make a splash at Stamford School

Encasement’s versatile Polyma GRP column casings have provided the perfect finishing touch to a new gym and swimming pool at a leading independent school.

The new sports complex at the 475 year-old Stamford School in Lincolnshire has been designed by architects GSS and boasts a state-of-the art fitness suite, 25 metre swimming pool, wet and dry changing rooms, teaching rooms and a hospitality area.

Encasement’s moulded glass reinforced polymer (GRP) column casings, which are suited to both interior and exterior use, fitted the bill perfectly when it came to concealing structural columns in both the main pool area and changing rooms.

Manufactured in white gloss and with fixings filled and polished out for a flawless finish, the fifteen square casings range in height from 2.7 up to 6 metres, with Encasement not only supplying but also undertaking the installation.

Around the new swimming pool, the casings have been installed at both ground floor and mezzanine level to provide a seamless continuity of form, whilst in the changing rooms they provide a neat finish, which integrates with the overall design of the pool.

As Polyma GRP column casings are produced from a mould, it enables designers to specify custom shapes, sizes and surface finishes in a diverse range of RAL colours to meet the needs of specific projects. Also, the casings are highly durable and do not corrode, which were all factors that made them the ideal choice for Stamford’s new pool and changing rooms.

Encasement’s Managing Director, Martin Taylor, says: “While the casings on this project were of a square design to blend with the clean, white colour scheme, the versatility of Polyma GRP enables it to be moulded into bespoke shapes and be produced in virtually any colour to match the needs of specific applications. As a result they can be used either as a discrete way of concealing architectural columns or to make them stand out as a design feature.”
