Encasement enhances its sustainability compliance
In line with the government requirements for the UK Timber Regulations (UKTR) to be a mandatory regulatory standard for all businesses supplying timber-based products into the UK market, Encasement has adopted UKTR as its default sustainability regime and has also implemented a managed due diligence system (DDS) to ensure compliance.
Since 2010, Encasement has been an FSC® Chain of custody certified business, covering the supply of materials used in its plywood pipe boxing, boiler casings and column casing product ranges. We subsequently adopted the European Timber Regulations (EUTR), when they were introduced in 2013, alongside FSC®.
In January 2021, following Brexit, the principles and scope of EUTR were implemented in the UK under the UKTR legislation, which also extended the diligence requirements to cover timber imported from the EU, which accounts for 52% of UK wood consumption according to the Timber Trades Federation (TTF).
With UKTR becoming the default sustainable timber sourcing regulation and our reluctance to accept FSC® timbers sourced from Russia, we have now adopted the more diligent, and arguably more strict, UKTR scheme as our standard sustainable sourcing procedure. This helps ensure that our customers can be confident they are receiving 100% legally sourced, sustainable and compliant products from us.
In time, Encasement’s FSC® certification will lapse and will not be renewed unless there is a future legal requirement for it to be adopted.
